FAQ & Support
Everything you might want to know about Bitely, from how it works to what it does with your data and where the boundaries are.
Getting started
What is Bitely?
Bitely is a diabetes management app built around food. It helps you plan, log, and understand your meals, with personalised targets, meal analysis, live glucose awareness, and coaching that works from your own data rather than generic advice.
Which types of diabetes does it support?
Type 1, Type 2, prediabetes, and gestational diabetes, plus a weight-loss mode. Your targets and every meal analysis are calculated from the profile you set up during onboarding, so guidance is specific to your situation.
Is Bitely medical advice?
No. Bitely provides educational nutrition insights: carb counts, glycemic impact, and pattern-spotting from your own numbers. Estimates like "the rise you're likely to see" are educational estimates built from your own history, not clinical predictions. Bitely never gives medical or medication advice, and it is not a replacement for your doctor or diabetes care team. For anything clinical, Bitely points you to your healthcare team.
Where can I get the app?
Bitely is out now and only available on the App Store, for iPhone and iPad. Download it here. There's no Android version yet.
Can I try Bitely before I download it?
Yes. The free website account gives you access to our curated library of diabetes-friendly meals and 3 free meal analyses, personalised to your profile, using the same analysis logic as the app. Start here.
Eating & logging
How do Smart Meal Suggestions work?
Bitely answers the only question that matters at mealtime: what should I eat, right now? Enter your current reading, or let Bitely pull the latest one from Apple Health, and every suggestion is matched to where you actually are. An elevated reading brings up gentler, lower-carb options, and a low one brings up something balanced to steady you back. Each idea shows its carbs and the rise you're likely to see, based on how meals like it have actually landed for you. It's an educational estimate built from your own history, not medical advice.
How does voice logging work?
Tap the mic and just say what you ate, something like "two poached eggs on sourdough with avocado", and Bitely does the rest. It picks out each food, works out portions, and gives you a review screen where you can nudge a quantity or fix a mishearing before saving. Everything lands in your journal as one meal, with full macros attached, in about ten seconds. Composite dishes like a full English get broken out into their parts automatically, so nothing gets lost.
What does the meal analysis show?
Every meal you log gets broken down straight away: carbs, protein, fat and fibre, calories, and a glycemic load badge so you can see at a glance whether something is low, medium or high. Carbs are labelled in plain language (lower carb, moderate carb, or higher carb treat), so there's no jargon to decode. You also get micronutrients like iron, magnesium, potassium and vitamin D, which most food trackers skip entirely. Analysis works on your own meals too, not just the ones from our library.
How big is the meal library?
5,000+ curated diabetes-friendly meals across 40+ cuisines, every one with photos, full nutrition, ingredients and prep time. Search by name or by ingredient: type "chicken, broccoli" and get meals that actually contain both. Filter by glycemic load, carb range, protein level, prep time and diet style. The Recommended tab learns from the foods you said you liked and disliked, and shifts through the day so breakfast ideas don't turn up at dinnertime.
How do the journal and weekly planning work?
Your journal is one screen for both sides of eating: what you've already had and what's coming. Tap any empty slot to plan a meal for later in the week, then tap "Log this" when you actually eat it. Daily totals for carbs, calories and protein sit at the top so you always know where you stand against your targets. You can add a photo to any meal you've logged, kept privately to your account.
Glucose & patterns
Does Bitely work with my CGM?
Yes. Connect Apple Health and Bitely reads your glucose to power live meal suggestions, meal-to-glucose insights, and your weekly reports. Your best responses and notable rises are called out by name, so you can see exactly which foods work for you.
I use fingersticks, not a CGM. Is Bitely still useful?
Very much so. Log a meal and you'll get a gentle nudge about two hours later (never at night) to record one reading and, if you like, how you felt. Take a quick reading before eating too and Bitely pairs the two into a real measured rise, feeding the same insights CGM users get. It never interprets an individual reading; it just tracks how meals land over time.
What are "steadiest meals" and "biggest spikers"?
Bitely quietly builds a picture of how your body responds to specific meals, then ranks them for you. You get a list of the meals that keep you steadiest and a list of the ones that raised you most, each with the average rise and how many times you've eaten it. Those rankings feed straight back into your recommendations, so the app gets more useful the longer you use it. It's pattern-spotting from your own numbers, presented as an educational estimate.
What is the morning brief?
Each morning Bitely writes you a short, plain-English card: how yesterday actually went, what's already planned for today, and one thing worth keeping an eye on. It's grounded in your real logs, your plan and your glucose from the day before, so it reads like a note from someone who was paying attention. Tap "Ask Pluto" to talk any of it through. An optional 7am notification lets you know when it's ready.
Pluto, medication & boundaries
Who, or what, is Pluto?
Pluto is a chat companion that already knows your week: what you ate, how your glucose responded, which meals keep you steady, and where you are against today's targets. Ask it why porridge spikes you, what to have for dinner, or whether you're improving, and it answers from your real data rather than generic advice. It suggests swaps you can log, save or plan with a single tap.
Will Pluto or Bitely ever advise on my medication?
No, never. Pluto talks nutrition and habits, never medication or dosing. For anything clinical it points you to your healthcare team. The same boundary applies across the whole app.
How does medication logging work, then?
Add the medications you take from a built-in list, then log each dose with a tap from your journal. Doses appear alongside your meals and on your glucose charts, so you can see the full picture of a day in one place. Bitely never uses adherence language, so nothing is "missed" or "late", and it never comments on your doses or suggests changes. It's a record you keep for yourself and can show your care team.
Reports & privacy
What's in the weekly report?
Every week Bitely pulls your logs into a clear report: meals logged, average carbs and calories against target, macro split, and the times of day you tend to eat. If you have glucose data you also get time in range, how your levels moved hour by hour, and how long your meals typically took to peak and settle. Your best responses and your notable rises are called out by name.
Can I share my report, and is that private?
You can share the report as an image, with glucose details included only if you choose. It's generated on your device and goes nowhere unless you send it.
What happens to my meal photos and data?
Photos you add to logged meals are kept privately to your account. Your logs power your own insights (recommendations, rankings, reports) and aren't shared. For the full detail, see our Privacy Policy.
Pricing & plans
What's free and what's Premium?
On this website, free means 150 hand-picked meals with full nutrition and 3 meal analyses personalised to your profile, with no card needed. The Bitely app itself is $12.99 / £12.99 a month or $90 / £90 a year (save over 40%) with a 3-day free trial, and includes the full 5,000+ meal library, meal analysis on everything you log, voice logging, glucose tracking, weekly planning and reports, and Pluto.
How do the website's 3 free analyses work?
Create a free account, complete a two-minute onboarding (diabetes type, goals, and a few details), and you can run an analysis on any meal in the library, or one you describe yourself. Each analysis is personalised to your profile: likely glucose impact, carb estimate, macro balance, tips, and a smart swap. You get 3 on the website; in the app you can analyse every meal you log.
